Dave Armstrong

Dave is Joint Principal and Executive Director of Armstrong Davis Associates, specialising in dispute avoidance and dispute resolution. He has over thirty years experience in the commercial aspects of engineering, petrochemical processing and oil and gas construction projects.

Dave is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with extensive experience of working for subcontractors, contractors, private quantity surveying practices, oil companies, and claims consultants.

Prior to establishing Armstrong Davis Associates in 1999, Dave spent eight years with the SLP / Odebrecht Oil and Gas group of companies, latterly as Commercial Manager on the Conoco MacCulloch FPSO project prior to that as Commercial and Financial Manager and QS Manager of SLP's Teesside fabrication yard. This is relevant because Dave gained particular management experience encompassing exposure to all aspects of the contracting business, from bid preparation and management through to final accounts and claims.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Dave is closely involved in industry in the North East of England by virtue of his appointment as a Director of NOF Energy, a not-for-profit business development organisation, and as a Board member of Renew Tees Valley, another not-for-profit organisation involved with the renewable energy business.


Bob Davis

Bob is Joint Principal and Executive Director of Armstrong Davis Associates, specialising in dispute avoidance and dispute resolution. Bob is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor who has over thirty four years experience in all aspects relating to the construction, engineering, fabrication and oil and gas industries. This has involved him in preparing contractual claims for prolongation, delay and disruption, liaison with and providing quantum advice to solicitors involved in major construction litigation.

Bob is a practicing Adjudicator, Arbitrator, Mediator and Expert Witness and was the first Regional Board Chairman of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Yorkshire after the implementation of Agenda for Change. Bob is also Past Chairman of the North East Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Bob presently is Chairman of the Adjudication Society in the UK. Bob is a member of the Society of Construction Law committee in Leeds and is a member of Turner Arbitration Chambers.


Robert Brimacombe

Robert is an Associate Director with ADA with 37 years of professional experience. He is experienced within main and specialist design and construct manufacturing contractor organisations and dealing with and managing complex commercial, contractual and legal issues in a variety of sector types at all stages of a project.

Robert is a Member of the RICS and a number of other professional associations. He was Commercial Director at A&P Tyne where he was involved in a variety of major ship conversions, repairs, refits, and dry docking ranging from MOD vessels to cruise ship lengthening to FPSO conversions, barge and offshore vessel modification contracts. He has since undertaken assignments for ADA on similar projects.

Robert is experienced in general company and team management, bid reviews, commercial risk management, assessments and procedures, the formation and drafting of contracts and collateral agreements, claims, guarantees, bonding, insurance arrangements, and terms for sub-letting. He has worked in a number of overseas locations on arbitration work, claims and due dilligence issues and partnering, involved in over 30 English adjudication referrals including in the role of Party Representative, he has dealt with a number of complex insurance claims and sub-sea installation issues on behalf of of a petroleum company. Robert is accustomed to working closely with legal representatives and advisers. Robert has a wealth of engineering related experience and is a key member of the ADA team.


Andrew Milburn

Andrew is a Consultant with some 15 years experience in the construction industry as a Quantity Surveyor. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and also holds an M.Sc in Construction Law and Arbitration from Leeds Metropolitan University.

Andrew most recently has been involved in the preparation and negotiation of various final accounts in relation to a vessel modification project in Malta including the preparation of design claims, prolongation and loss and expense documentation.

He has also been involved in the preparation of Expert Witness Reports and also in providing services as a party representative in dispute avoidance and resolution. Andrew has also been involved in the preparation of referral and response documentation in relation to adjudications. Andrew has provided commercial support to various projects, whilst giving advice on dispute avoidance and/or resolution. Andrew has also acted as a consultant project surveyor on a major housing development in Yorkshire, which involved all the necessary commercial activities such as procurement and monthly reporting.


Dave Murison

Dave is an Associate Director with ADA and has thirty years of UK and international experience in general, commercial and project management in the oil and gas industry, with total budget and P&L responsibility. He also has extensive experience in executing project peer reviews.

Dave's career has progressed from roles as a Quantity Surveyor involved in international oil and gas projects to senior contracts roles with major oil companies Britoil and Beatrice and Amerada Hess. These roles have involved Dave in the full life cycle of projects from inception to final accounts and claims and as such Dave is able to comfortably deal with a variety of situations arising from Major contracts.

Dave is a Fellow of the RICS and has an accomplished track record in the commercial management field including the development and growth of an emerging Danish business as well as experience in the acquisition of North Sea assets, procurement for operations and major capital investment projects, multi-million financial and cost control, and also involvement with Government relations whilst with Amerada Hess.

Dave is presently acting as commercial manager in a heavy oil development in the North Sea on behalf of a new operator.


Mike Cook

Mike is a Consultant with ADA and has some 10 years experience involved in the contracts and commercial aspects of engineering, petrochemicals and marine conversion projects as well as traditional construction and PFI projects.

Mike is a Probationer Member of the RICS and has a B.Sc(Hons) in Quantity surveying (1st class), with an LLB Degree in Law and an LLM in Civil Liberties Law. He has an extensive background in pre and post contract work from his time working with a professional practice which is invaluable when dealing with Variation and Final Account work. He is also well versed in the world of disputes from his time working on major petrochemicals and Nuclear projects and also has experience of International Arbitrations.


Kyra Reed

Kyra is a Consultant with ADA and has 5 years experience since graduation from Loughborough University. She is a highly motivated Quantity Surveyor who has had experience of a variety of building, civil engineering and oil & gas projects. Kyra prospers when positioned in a team-based environment but she also has the confidence and initiative to work alone. Kyra's excellent interpersonal and communicative skills have ensured the achievement of good results.

Kyra has been involved in a variety of projects whilst with ADA of most relevance being her involvement in two marine projects in Malta relating to a Power Barge construction where ADA were employed to produce a delay and disruption claim.

This assignment lead to a second one in relation to dealing with variations that had occurred to a contract but were not acknowledged by the client. Kyra's involvement in this project was based around the identification of the changes and variations that had occurred and the preparation of bundles to substantiate each individual variation.


Lindsey Armstrong

Lindsey is ADA's Quality and Training Manager. She is a qualified solicitor and worked in the litigation department of a large North East of England practice. In 2002 Lindsey completed a postgraduate teaching qualification (PGCE) from Huddersfield University. Lindsey has extensive experience as a business consultant advising and training Trustee Boards and Management teams of Third Sector organisations.

Prior to joining ADA Lindsey spent several years working in business development, management, consultancy, and training for a large charitable organisation in addition to carrying out consultancy work with ADA. She is presently working towards an MBA (Enterprise).


Jeremy Wright

Jeremy is ADA's Business Development Manager. He has an engineering background and worked at Cummins Diesel Engines in manufacturing and product design. He then moved to a document management systems company as European Product Marketing Manager and then into the UK government in a business development, training, and consultancy capacity.

Prior to joining ADA Jeremy worked at Durham University Business School, where for seven years he managed a strategic business development programme and was a lecturer in marketing, leadership and management.


Ian Wilcox

Ian is a Senior Consultant with ADA. He has some twenty years of experience in the construction sector particularly in relation to the petrochemicals sector.

Ian is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has an M.Sc in Construction Law and Arbitration from Leeds Metropolitan University.

Ian's background is predominantly as a Quantity Surveyor involved in the services aspect of the industry. As such he is experienced in dealing with the variations and final account processes as well as claims preparation, submission negotiation and agreement.


Ian Robertson

Ian is a senior consultant with ADA and has extensive experience of providing commercial and project management services and solutions for owners, contractors and consultants on large and complex projects around the world. Ian usually gets involved in those "difficult projects" that need to be brought under control.

Ian is experienced in the commercial, infrastructure, leisure, petrochemical, process, residential, semiconductor and retail sectors and he has worked with companies including BAA, Intel, PepsiCo, and SAB-Miller.

Ian is a key member of the ADA team and possesses an M.Sc in Construction Management. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building and a member of the Association of Cost Engineers.


Chris Hewkin

Chris is a Consultant with ADA and has some 15 years experience involved in construction. Chris is a Member of the RICS and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has a B.Sc(Hons) in Quantity surveying, and a Masters degree in Construction Law & Arbitration. Chris is a Quantity Surveyor experienced in diverse aspects of the profession. His experience has been gained working for specialist refurbishment, masonry and fit-out contractors progressing from site based project surveyor to managing surveyor.

He has extensive experience in the preparation and negotiation of interim and final accounts. Also dispute resolution both adversarial and non-adversarial. In addition to the preparation and submission of cost/value reports, has assisted in the development of cost/value reporting systems. Prior to joining ADA Chris was a Senior Consultant at a leading contractual and commercial consultant undertaking commissions in the building, engineering, petrochemical and power sectors.


Damian Wilkinson

Damian Wilkinson is an Associate Director of ADA. An accomplished forensic quantity surveyor, he has a wealth of experience dealing with the resolution of complex arguments. He has advised on numerous contracts in the education, commercial property, power, civil engineering, and transport sectors and on major information systems projects.

Damian has provided procurement and contract advice on the development of bespoke engineering contracts based on the Engineering and Construction Contract for major companies and devolved government agencies. He was an integral part of the team that developed the Rail Track RT conditions of contract and associated documentation.

Damian was involved in the development of procurement and contract strategies for major infrastructure and industrial projects, including the development and drafting of special conditions for a bespoke EPCM contract mine development in Greece. He has provided strategic procurement and contract advice for a regeneration development company and has developed and delivered seminars and training on project procurement and the ECC and other conditions of contract. Damian provided contract and procurement advice for a worldwide oil company, a devolved government agency, and a utility company on the use of the ECC.

Damian is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, a Member of the RICS, and a Fellow of the CIArb. He has a First Class (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying, a Masters degree in Construction Law and Arbitration, and an Expert Witness Certificate.

Damian heads ADA's risk management capability. He has experience of risk management in the following industries: technology, mixed-use developments, water, housing, aviation, highways, education, and health.

Chris Hewkin, consultant at LEEDS-based global construction consultancy Armstrong Davis Associates (ADA) has qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with flying colours. The status, awarded by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is recognition that Chris is dedicated to his profession and his own personal development. Chris' achievements don't stop at his professional career, he is also part of the team from the United Kingdom that will compete in the 2009 Flying Fifteen World sailing Championships in Melbourne, Australia in January.
